Welcome to Colchester CNC! We are a metalworking company based in downtown London, England. Our team specializes in creating the highest quality machine parts for businesses across the globe. Our factory is filled with various lathes of all shapes and sizes. Some our our machines include center lathes, toolroom lathes, turret lathes, gang-tool lathes, multi-spindle lathes, and CNC lathes.
CNC is short for “Computer Numerical Controlled”. These types of metal lathes are slowly replacing older similar production lathes because they are much easier to use and are more efficient. The entire machine is controlled electronically through a computer which provides a live demo as the machine is working. These machines do however, take a high level of skill and knowledge to control it safely and responsible. But not as much as the older production lathes which require more care and hands on work.
CNC lathes have revolutionized the metalworking industry. From a technology standpoint, no other machine even comes close to the power that these put out! These machines run on programs so they just have to be supervised by a staff member. The programs are installed into the machine once and as long as you are making that same part, you won’t ever have to change the programming file. Although, the machine has to run several trials and test runs before the machine is fully operational.
One of the ways that cnc lathes operate is horizontal milling. The happens when the cylinder is spinning on a horizontal axis and is used for boring and machining centers. Boring is most common with a cnc lathe. Here’s a detailed video showing the entire CNC lathe process:
At Colchester CNC, we purchase most of our lathes and other machinery from Premier Equipment, Inc. They are one of the best suppliers we have ever worked with and they really take care of their customers. Supplying both horizontal and vertical oriented machine lathes, premier equipment has all the right tools for the job.
Another type of CNC lathes are vertical Milling machines. These machines are vertical oriented and uses a vertical spindle axis to be able to drill holes and perform plunge cuts. The vertical milling cnc lathe can also design the outside of parts by creating cool shapes and 3D graphics. Many of these machines use an open source software for programming. This is beneficial for the operators because they don’t have to do as much work once the files are correctly programmed. However, it does require a skilled developer to create and install the program in the first place. Once machine factories began using cnc machines, the cost of such machines surprisingly declined. Perhaps this was caused by the speedy production of Computer Numerical Controlled machines and the demand for the product was low. As the years go by, engineers will build much better CNC lathes than in the past.
At Colchester CNC, we provide our customers with quality CNC machines tools for all types of jobs. Our main product however, is the CNC lathe.
